Over the past 10 years...

CWF has prepared and e-filed 115,600 tax returns and brought $191 million in state and federal refunds to working families throughout Philadelphia. The Campaign’s free tax prep services have saved these families an additional $24.6 million in interest, fees and charges for tax preparation, check cashing, and loans.

In addition, CWF volunteers have helped over 2000 customers save thousands of dollars for the future in U.S. Savings Bonds, opened over 1,800 new basic banking products, completed and filed over 1,200 applications for benefits like SNAP and LIHEAP and pulled more than 7000 free credit reports.


For tax season 2011-12, the Campaign...

  • Trained and supported 728 active IRS-certified volunteers who spent 20,667 hours staffing 11 free tax preparation sites
  • Completed 13,509 taxes, including 702 small business returns and 4,420 EITC returns
  • Returned $20.1 million in state and federal tax refunds including $7 million of EITC refunds
  • Opened 580 new financial products: pre-paid debit cards and basic bank accounts
  • Helped 918 customers purchase U.S. savings bonds for long term savings      
  • Completed 411 FAFSA forms and 800 public benefit applications (Food Stamps, CHIP, Medical, LIHEAP)
  • Pulled credit reports for 5,258 customers
